2016 European Reading Challenge

This Challenge, hosted by Rose City Reader-http://www.rosecityreader.com/p/the-european-reading-challenge-january.html

definitely looks fun so I am signing up for this one, my goal-Five Star (Deluxe Entourage). If I do more than thats ok!! here is the details:
Welcome to the 2016 European Reading Challenge – where participants tour Europe through books.  And have a chance to win a prize.  Please join us for the Grand Tour!

THE GIST: The idea is to read books by European authors or books set in European countries (no matter where the author comes from). The books can be anything – novels, short stories, memoirs, travel guides, cookbooks, biography, poetry, or any other genre. You can participate at different levels, but each book must be by a different author and set in a different country – it's supposed to be a tour. (See note about the UK, below)
NOTE: Technically, the United Kingdom is still one country that includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.  So one book from any one of these four counts as your one book for that one country. I'm not going to be a stickler about it because challenges should be about fun not about rules. However, when it comes to winning the Jet Setter prize, only one book from one of the UK countries will count.

THE LIST: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Macedonia, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and Vatican City.
LEVELS OF PARTICIPATION

FIVE STAR (DELUXE ENTOURAGE): Read at least five books by different European authors or books set in different European countries.

FOUR STAR (HONEYMOONER): Read four qualifying books.

THREE STAR (BUSINESS TRAVELER): Read three qualifying books.

TWO STAR (ADVENTURER): Read two qualifying books.

ONE STAR (PENSIONE WEEKENDER): Read just one qualifying book.

JET SETTER PRIZE

The participant who reads and reviews the greatest number of qualifying books (more than five) will get a $25 gift card to Powell's Books (can be used in store or on line).  Participants living in Europe will get a $25-equivalent gift card to the Amazon store in your country, if possible. If you live in a country where neither Powell's nor Amazon will work, then sorry, you are out of luck.

Each book must be by a different author and set in a different country. This means that only one book from one of the four UK countries will count.  Only books reviewed count towards the prize.

OFFICIAL RULES
  • Read all books between January 1, 2016 and January 31, 2017.  I like having 13 months so there is extra time to finish after the holidays.  However, if you participated in the 2015 European Reading Challenge, you can only count books read in January 2016 for one year -- either the end of the 2015 challenge or the start of the 2016 challenge -- you don't get to count one book for both challenges.
  • Sign up here using Mr. Linky under the "PARTICIPANTS" heading below. Please use a link to your challenge post, not your blog home page
  • If you do not have a blog, please leave a comment below with the level you are signing up for, and your list of books if you want to name them now, and I will add you to the list.
  • You do not have to commit to your choices now; you can change your mind about books at any time.
  • Overlap with other challenges is allowed -- and encouraged! Have ideas for good overlapping challenge opportunities? Please leave links in comments.
  • Re-reads count.  Audiobooks count.  E-books count.  Self-published books count.
  • As you progress, please link to your reviews on the review list page.  Reviews are not necessary, unless you are going for the prize, in which case only books reviewed count.  If you do not have a blog, put your reviews or reports in a comment on this post. When you finish, please link to your wrap-up posts on the wrap-up page.
  • You can copy and paste the button. Or, if you want me to send you the code, please leave a comment with an email and I will. I cannot figure out the fancy ways of giving button instructions.

Its Monday what are you reading?#2

It's Monday, What are You Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. http://bookdate.blogspot.com/2015/12/its-monday-what-are-you-reading_28.html
I am reading one book right now to finish before the New Year begins, and all my Challenges- I am signing up for a few more but not too many..LOL I can't wait to start as I have all my books organized into each of my Challenges. Plus my biggest goal is NO CROSSOVERS!! I think that defeats the purpose! I finished reading Rules of Command last week, and now I am reading Tell No One by Harlan Coben. I really enjoy his books.
Finished last week.
Reading now.
It's Monday, What are You Reading?

Sunday Post #3

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where we can describe our bookish and non bookish week!!
Well, I celebrated Christmas with my boyfriend who is now my fiancee!! What a gift, we've been together almost 2 years, I met him today-2 years ago!! Mike also bought me a nice umbrella and my Minion sleep pants!! (I love Minions!!)
It's 67 outside here in PA but is supposed to drop 25 degrees by tonight, and of course, I must work!!Ugh..
For bookish news I struggled to get through Rules of Command (did finish) and posted my review although it's a short one. I got 3 books for my Challenges next year, started reading Tell No One by Harlan Coben, one of my all time favorites. Posted 2 tours. Entered many giveaways. Planning on my Buy A Box first special-that's coming up this week!! Today I am posting a complete Challenge list that I have so anyone can sign up, I have over 100 on my list right now.
I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday, as I am, and Happy Reading!!

Book Review:Rules of Command by C.A.Mobley

This military read takes place in the Panama Canal, which was neat, a perfect spot for a military novel.

Excerpt:An American cruiser accidentally shoots down a commercial airliner carrying the President of Panama.
And that is how the story begins. We then have 2 female characters who are directly involved, one of which has a past history of being involved with a similar incident. Then throw in different agencies working against each other and they are all trying to resolve these issues while China is persuading Panama to take action against the US.
What I liked most: the in-depth descriptions of how they operated-i.e. sonar, radar etc. That was really easy to follow without too much complications. I also liked Elwell, a character who could actually have his own books...LOL
What I didn't care for: How it made the US seem weak and incompetant as opposed to China. China factors largely as an enemy of ours in this read. Would I recommend this book? Eh- if you're looking for a quick military-style read.

My overall rating:

This week is the Cookie Exchange!! How fun, I am going to post a recipe even though I am not baking this year. I did last year and passed out cookies at work!!

Ingredients

1
package Pillsbury™ ready-to-bake sugar cookies
1
jar (7 oz) marshmallow creme (1 1/2 cups)
1
cup butter, softened
2 1/2
cups powdered sugar
1/2
teaspoon red gel food color
48
miniature marshmallows
White candy sprinkles
1 of 5Heat oven to 350°F. Cut each cookie in half. Roll each half into a ball. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
2 of 5Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are set and golden brown. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheets before removing to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 10 minutes.

3 of 5To make frosting, in large bowl, beat marshmallow crème and softened butter with electric mixer on medium speed until blended. Beat in powdered sugar until fluffy. Add food color, and beat until well combined.
4  of 5Top each hat with miniature marshmallow. Gently press sprinkles around bottom edge of each hat so they stick to frosting.Place frosting in resealable food-storage plastic bag. Cut off 1 tiny corner of bag. Pipe frosting, piling up in hat shape, on top of each cookie.
